Back to the MLA...
One thing I have been up to this fall is teaching! I have been teaching like a mad woman, as if it were my job... well, it was my job! Along with 30 lectures at the Uni, I also gave 70 hours worth of lectures to a group of Norwegian students. But that, dear readers, is for another post altogether...
As this was during the fall, that meant another round of job and postdoctoral fellowship applications. I probably sent out about 50 apps this year, and I have already received a pile of rejection letters. Mixed in were several requests for interviews, which means another MLA this Christmas. I hate it, I really do. I am already so anxious and ill, this will be the last year that I seek a tenure track job in academia. Just looking at the picture of those beautiful Prada shoes makes my feet hurt, but I will be pounding the pavement, running from hotel to hotel, trying to appear calm and intelligent for the interviews I do have. In this difficult economy I am happy to have interviews, but I am getting too old for this. On average, most positions I applied for received about 500 applicants! With those odds, I should audition for a film role, Lord knows I seem to like drama!
